![]() Fans of aromatherapy may sprinkle lavender essential oil on their pillows to help them get a good night's sleep, or inhale the oil when they feel tense. But there's a new calming fragrance in town – jasmine. According to a German study recently published in the Journal of Biological Chemistry, the fragrance naturally found in jasmine as well as it's man-made version have the same effect on the brain as commonly prescribed sleeping tablets and mood enhancers, including valium. Drugs like valium work by boosting the effect of a brain chemical called gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) that promotes relaxation and sleep, with low doses increasing the GABA effect by two to three times. However in tests on mice the German researchers discovered the natural and synthetic jasmine fragrances increased the GABA effect by up to five times. The trouble with sleeping pills and other sedatives is that they can be addictive and have a range of potential side effects, including depression, dizziness and low blood pressure. But so far no one has found any risks associated with the smell of jasmine - and the researchers suggest it could be used for a variety of health problems including sleeplessness, anxiety and even aggression. Ways to get your jasmine hit include growing your own plants (different varieties flower at different times of year), treating yourself to a bottle of jasmine essential oil, or splashing out on a designer perfume such as Jo Malone White Jasmine and Mint Cologne, Estée Lauder Private Collection Jasmine White Moss Eau de Parfum, or Bulgari Jasmine Noir Eau de Parfum. At least you'll smell good. Article by Christine Morgan, health journalist and freelance writer find out more about Christine here Add Comment The house of your life that you build. 07/21/2010
![]() An elderly carpenter was ready to retire. He told his employer-contractor of his plans to leave the house building business and live a more leisurely life with his wife enjoying his extended family. He would miss the paycheck, but he needed to retire. They could get by. The contractor was sorry to see his good worker go and asked if he could build just one more house as a personal favor. The carpenter said yes, but in time it was easy to see that his heart was not in his work. He resorted to shoddy workmanship and used inferior materials. It was an unfortunate way to end his career. When the carpenter finished his work and the builder came to inspect the house, the contractor handed the front-door key to the carpenter. "This is your house," he said, "my gift to you." If he had only known he was building his own house, he would have done it all so differently. Now he had to live in the home he had built none too well. So it is with us. We can find we built our lives in a distracted way, reacting rather than acting, we could be putting up with less than the best. Then with a shock we look at the situation we have created and find that we are now living in the house we have built. We can do it differently from now. For sure there may need some repairs and re modelling. Think of yourself as the carpenter. Think about your house. Build wisely. Your life deserves to be lived graciously and with dignity. The plaque on the wall says, "Life is a do-it-yourself project." Your life tomorrow will be the result of your attitudes and the choices you make today. It will also be the results of your beliefs which hide behind your motivation and thoughts for building your life.. Come build with Theta Healing Academy and discover and change beliefs so that your house becomes a lifetime's work, a work of art and stability you will be proud to live in. By Alexandra P. Hi everyone, I pulled a tarot card for this time. They're from my own deck. I'ts totally appropriate, out of 78 cards I pulled the Sun. The sun is a major arcana card, it's therefore representing the subconscious architypes in our minds. We're in a heatwave in the UK so this card fits! I love the way tarot works and opens doors to the psyche, just like Theta Healing opens doors to intutive abilities. The sun also means this can be a time of warmth from friends, family, spouses, lovers and general soulmates to find each other. It's a time to trust your intuition and to allow a childlike awe of the world and life to awaken in you. Talking of children, this could be a high fertility time for some of you. A time where you can remember and live what it feels like to be happy. | Alexandra P. BrownIntuitive Reader, Director, Advanced Theta Healer/ Instructor.
