 Choose carefully when considering a partner, whether to go to the cinema, restaurant and how you look after your physical well being. These choices may have a significant effect on your overall life fulfilment. That's according to a study that defies the theory that life happiness is mainly predetermined by your genetic code. The broadly acknowledged "set-point" hypothesis of happiness states that a person's long-term happiness tends to be steady because it is reliant mainly on genetic causes. The idea is based partly on studies that show identical twins have more similar levels of life contentment than non identical twins. This implies that although your level of happiness may sporadically be thrown off by major life events, it will always return to a main set level within 2 years. Bruce Headey at the University of Melbourne in Australia wanted to discover if people really are pre destined for a certain amount of happiness and his team queried people in Germany about their lifestyles, careers and social and religious activities. The survey was first completed by 3000 people a year, and that rose to 60,000 per year by the end of the 25-year study. They found that evident changes in lifestyle resulted in sizeable long-term changes in reported life fulfilment, as opposed to causing the momentary changes in happiness that set-point theory had suggested. One of the greatest influences on a person's happiness was their partner's amount of neuroticism. Those that had partners who scored greatly on tests for neuroticism were more prone to be unhappy – and shown to stay unhappy for as long as the relationship existed. Family values and altruism also predisposed lasting happiness. Those whose yearly survey responses altered to place a higher priority on altruistic habits and family goals were rewarded with a long-term increase in life fulfilment. Those who had a priority of career and material success, experienced a corresponding long-term decline in happiness. The pursuit of happiness was also helped in having strong religious or spiritual convictions. "People who attend church regularly seem to be happier than people who are not religious," says Headey. A person's body weight was another factor for long-term happiness, notably for women. Underweight men scored slightly lower than those with healthy weights, while women stated being considerably less happy when they were obese. Being overweight seemed to have no effect on men's happiness. Robert Cummins at Deakin University in Burwood, Australia, notes that changes in happiness reported by Headey's team could be influenced by individuals falling into or recovering from depression. The group advises its findings may be useful to other populations, having found comparable patterns, as yet unpublished, in the UK and Australia. How is your pursuit of happiness? Seems like the amount of little white lies people tell themselves can be dangerous to their mental, emotional and physical health. Most people don’t even know they are lying. It’s a method of denial that can help some feel better about themselves and their perception of the world. Whilst some may think that this reaction is harmless, look at the list below and check if these are some of the untruths you’ve been telling yourself.Take a look at these top beliefs and lies. My happiness is from outside events that I have no control over. The belief that we have no control over our own happiness sets us on a path to upset and disappointment. This is a belief that happiness only happens to a few ‘selected’ others. That somehow it’s fine for others but doesn’t work for you.I did it and want it MY way. Everyone must have goals or targets in life, but if the outcome of your goals is your main or only reason for happiness, you could be living with unreasonable expectation of yourself and others. Naturally, if you check in with the energy of all that is, there are often some better ways to achievements than just 'your way'. Check to see if you are imposing unreasonable expectations on yourself and other loved ones in your life.Happiness is defined by my achievements. Many people’s egos urge them to believe that their value and happiness is defined by external factors like work, achievements, targets. This could be a raise at work, a sporting event or game, or winning an argument with a spouse, friend or lover. Check to see if you are punishing yourself or others over having not yet achieved all you wish in life. To be loved, I must be agreeable to others. Some people find it really hard to say no. Others find it equally hard to say yes. You may have said no a few times, seen upset in people’s faces, and vowed to be a yes person. The problem here is that this may result in you giving up your own life to enhance that of others. This can appear to be generous. In fact, there’s nothing wrong with being kind, loving and generous. The problems occur if you become resentful over what you have given. They can also happen when you don’t know how to say no because of fear of what others may think. You may have a fear that you are unlovable and unwanted if you displease someone else who has the above belief, ‘’ I did it and want it all MY way.’’ Equally, those who find it hard to say yes to friends, lovers or spouses may hold the same belief that it has to be done ‘their’ way always.I must be approved and loved by others. You may wish for the approval of others. It can become a painful obstacle if you build your life around satisfying others, and procrastinate, or forget about your own needs. This can lead to one or all of the three R’s, resentment, rejection, regret.If only I had time … Some people often tell themselves they don’t have time to do what they truly want to. There are 2 issues in that. This can be an excuse designed to give us an easy way out of our fears of failure or success. Two, if we are truly that busy, most likely you are giving attention to what is more important to you, but you may not have told yourself the truth in that. I remember being asked how I found time to make my own mayonnaise. During that time I was running my own business, home, relationship, travelling a lot, and teaching numerous courses. I have time to do whatever I want to. You can make time for all, in order to have a full life. You may need to start changing some core beliefs.A white lie never hurts. This is one of the biggest lies of all because it creates upset. If you try to protect yourself from life by lying, you are wounding yourself. Sometimes in life we must experience upset in order to know what true success, love, and happiness is,.  A survey has underlined Britain's status as the "long hours" capital of Europe, with more than a third of employees saying they are overworked. The report shows that 36% of men and 40% of women would like to spend less time at work - even if that meant less money. Less than 10% of those surveyed said they wanted to work longer hours. Long hours
British workers spend longer at work than their European counterparts. 4 million people regularly ignore the European Working Time Directive by putting in more than 48 hours a week, according to the Trades Union Congress and the Industrial Society. While more bosses are getting round the rules by making employees take work home, as claimed by TUC. Workers found it a lot easier to increase their hours than to reduce them, according to the survey by Essex University's Institute for Social Economic Research. However, most employees do have some degree of control over the amount of hours they work. Fear
Dr Mark Taylor, co-author of the study, said: "But some jobs are more rigid in their hours, which may be caused by employer preferences, technology or industrial relations. "What is more, the costs of changing jobs mean that some people persistently work more hours than they would prefer." This suggests those in fear of losing work stay on and over work. The survey found people increased the number of hours they worked when unemployment rates were high, suggesting fear was the main reason for the long hours culture. Tired of living life with fear?  There are new atomic clock experiments showing that the pace of time changes at normal speeds and heights – for example, riding a bicycle or climbing up on a step ladder! I always thought time was bendable.. mutable. I remember travelling from Holland and arriving the same time I left and wondering where the hour in the air went?Einstein's relativity theory annihilated the idea that time runs at the same rate for everyone, everywhere in our universe. Time actually slows down in a gravitational field, making clocks run a bit slower on our Earth's surface then they do in deep space. If you hold a Theta brainwave your perception of time ‘bends’. Similar to deep meditation you can feel as if time stops or becomes intensely packed with information within 15- 60 seconds.Einsteins theory also predicts time is changed by velocity differences between observers. This is where the earths’ gravitational field is weaker.James Chin-Wen Chou from the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Colorado, led a team that used atomic clocks to show the effects of relativity.Thought experimentsThe time-slowing effects of gravity have been measured on smaller distances than 33 centimetres. In February, a team that included US Energy Secretary and Nobel prizewinning physicist Steven Chu reported seeing these effects when the difference in height between two objects was just 0.1 millimetre. It showed that waves at different heights oscillate at different frequencies due to gravitational time stretching.  Mabon the Autumn equinoxAt the times when the Sun is crossing the celestial equator day and night are of nearly equal length at all latitudes and so we call these dates the equinoxes (= 'equal night') In September as the Sun is moving southwards we refer to it as the autumnal equinox. The equinoxes are also the points on the celestial sphere where the ecliptic and equator cross and the vernal equinox is used as the zero point in measuring star co-ordinates.Why do the equinoxes occur on different days?The Earth takes approximately 365.25 days to go around the Sun. This is the reason we have a leap year every 4 years, to add another day to our calendar so that there is not a gradual drift of date through the seasons. For the same reason the precise time of the equinoxes are not the same each year, and generally will occur about 6 hours later each year, with a jump of a day (backwards) on leap years.It is the time of the autumn equinox, and the harvest is winding down. The fields are nearly empty, because the crops have been plucked and stored for the coming winter. Mabon is the mid-harvest festival, and it is when we take a few moments to honour the changing seasons, and celebrate the second harvest. He asks one of his new students to stand and.....
Prof: So you believe in God?
Student: Absolutely, sir.
Prof: Is God good?
Student: Sure.
Prof: Is God all-powerful?
Student: Yes.
Prof: My brother died of cancer even though he prayed to God to heal him. Most of us would attempt to help others who are ill. But God didn't. How is this God good then? Hmm?
(Student is silent.)
Prof: You can't answer, can you? Let's start again, young fellow. Is God good?
Student: Yes.
Prof: Is Satan good?
Student: No
Prof: Where does Satan come from?
Student: From...God...
Prof: That's right. Tell me son, is there evil in this world?
Student: Yes.
Prof: Evil is everywhere, isn't it? And God did make everything. Correct?
Student: Yes.
Prof: So who created evil?
(Student does not answer.)
Prof: Is there sickness? Immorality? Hatred? Ugliness? All these terrible things exist in the world, don't they?
Student: Yes, sir.
Prof: So, who created them?
(Student has no answer.)
Prof: Science says you have 5 senses you use to identify and serve the world around you. Tell me, son...Have you ever seen God?
Student: No, sir.
Prof: Tell us if you have ever heard your God?
Student: No, sir.
Prof: Have you ever felt your God, tasted your God, smelled your God? Have you ever had any sensory perception of God for that matter?
Student: No, sir. I'm afraid I haven't.
Prof: Yet you still believe in Him?
Student: Yes.
Prof: According to empirical, testable, demonstrable protocol, science says your GOD doesn't exist. What do you say to that, son?
Student: Nothing. I only have my faith.
Prof: Yes, faith. And that is the problem science has.
Student: Professor, is there such a thing as heat?
Prof: Yes.
Student: And is there such a thing as cold?
Prof: Yes.
Student: No sir. There isn't.
(The lecture theatre becomes very quiet with this turn of events.)
Student: Sir, you can have lots of heat, even more heat, superheat, mega heat, white heat, a little heat or no heat. But we don't have any thing called cold. We can hit 458 degrees below zero which is no heat, but we can't go any further after that. There is no such thing as cold. Cold is only a word we use to describe the absence of heat. We cannot measure cold. Heat is energy. Cold is not the opposite of heat, sir, just the absence of it.
(There is pin-drop silence in the lecture theatre.)
Student: What about darkness, Professor? Is there such a thing as darkness?
Prof: Yes. What is night if there isn't darkness?
Student: You're wrong again, sir. Darkness is the absence of something. You can have low light, normal light, bright light, flashing light.... But if you have no light constantly, you have nothing and it is called darkness, isn't it? In reality, darkness isn't. If it were you would be able to make darkness darker, wouldn't you?
Prof: So what is the point you are making, young man?
Student: Sir, my point is your philosophical premise is flawed.
Prof: Flawed? Can you explain how?
Student: Sir, you are working on the premise of duality. You argue there is life and then there is death, a good God and a bad God. You are viewing the concept of God as something finite, something we can measure. Sir, science can't even explain a thought. It uses electricity and magnetism, but has never seen, much less fully understood either one. To view death as the opposite of life is to be ignorant of the fact that death cannot exist as a substantive thing. Death is not the opposite of life: just the absence of it. Now tell me, Professor. Do you teach your students that they evolved from a monkey?
Prof: If you are referring to the natural evolutionary process, yes, of course, I do.
Student: Have you ever observed evolution with your own eyes, sir?
(The Professor shakes his head with a smile, beginning to realize where the argument is going.)
Student: Since no one has ever observed the process of evolution at work and cannot even prove that this process is an on-going endeavor, are you not teaching your opinion, sir? Are you not a scientist but a preacher?
(The class is in uproar.)
Student: Is there anyone in the class who has ever seen the Professor's brain?
(The class breaks out into laughter.)
Student: Is there anyone here who has ever heard the Professor's brain, felt it, touched or smelled it?..... No one appears to have done so. So, according to the established rules of empirical, stable, demonstrable protocol, science says that you have no brain, sir. With all due respect, sir, how do we then trust your lectures, sir?
(The room is silent. The professor stares at the student.)
Prof: I guess you'll have to take them on faith, son.
Student: That is it, sir.. The link between man & god is FAITH. That is all that keeps things moving & alive.

 Have you ever continuously sent out a strong emotional thought of, "I really don't want XYZ to happen", and somehow you only attract that situation into your life? Why is this? If we are truly powerful manifesting beings, why do we sometimes manifest what we really don't want to occur? There may have a variety of personal excuses and explanations for this, yet the most basic understanding is that, "whatever we resist, will persist." It is a paradoxical world we live in and the key to transcending it is to embrace everything and resist nothing. The only way to master life is to be at peace with it and within it. Any time you put up an inner energetic/emotional wall and resist anything or anyone, you'll find that your mind is fiercely focusing upon the negative aspects of what you don't want, instead of thinking about what you really want to manifest in your life. Vibrationally, we are like magnets and only attract that which we continuously focus upon with great emotion. So if you can stop focusing upon something, you'll stop resisting it and stop manifesting it. However to control the mind takes great awareness, patience and love. It also takes knowing your true divine infinite nature that fears absolutely nothing. For as divine beings, we've all set it up so that every little thing that we focus on grows, expands and returns to us naturally like a boomerang. You cannot get rid of your inherent manifesting magnet nature. If you could choose somehow train your mind to obsessively resist feelings of joy, love, abundance and gratitude, it'd be a fantastic way of manifesting those aspects into your life.

Perhaps you may have noticed this resistance habit show up in your relationships? Have you ever noticed when you start to think something is "wrong" about somebody or believe that they truly "should" be more like you or different, your body instantly tightens contracts and goes into "resistance mode". This internal rejection of life is a ridiculous attempt to protect the ego in some way and is an ignorance of our Divine Nature. It's good to know that your ego is like a shadow. When you get close to it, you discover that there is nothing really there! Sure, it seems real, yet is simply an illusionary contracted ball of festering belief systems blocking the brilliant light of your own infinite being. When someone makes fun of you (your ego) truly nobody is under attack. How can you attack a shadow? The ego is a juicy, fragmented yet false figment of your mind's imagination. The day that you realize what your ego is, is the same moment your eyes open to see that you are truly a divine infinite blessed being. "The real Self is eternal. It has no origin and no end. The other "I" is born and dies. It is impermanent." ~Ramana Maharishi Life is here to be explored and experienced on every level. Even resistance is a valid experience that needs to be explored. How else could you know what freedom was unless there was some release of resistance? Once you discover the Divine essence that you truly are, you will be freed from who you think you are and what you usually resist. It's good to know that resistance is simply a subtle form of fear. If you can embrace your fear with love, then ALL resistance dissolves. Eventually one day you will no longer resist anything, see everything as connected to the Divine and embrace it all. That is the day that you will have discovered the Divine Beings we all truly are and will have truly transcended all future suffering. To be totally free from resistance is to master your mind. The mind is easily trained when your body remains absent from fear. If you are resisting any aspect of life, you are focusing (on some level) on what you fear. Fear is that one thing people resist the most. It was created by a great misunderstanding; that you are separate from a loving Infinite Source. You can transcend all fear in your life by simply welcoming it. This can only be done by confining yourself to the present moment when the fear arises. Feel the fearful feeling, yet do not imprison yourself in its thoughts and feelings, go deeper...through it...and surrender to the presence of your eternal being. Find the river of consciousness that penetrates you and surrounds you. When you discover this river, you will find a much greater understanding of resistance and the freedom to release it.
